Yaoli, a small village approximately 60 km outside of Jingdezhen and a short distance away from Mt. Kaolin, is a walk back in time to what it might have been like during Ming and Qing Dynasties in a porcelain production town in the Jiangxi countryside. Well-preserved ancient ancestral halls, classical courtyard buildings, and intriguing winding alleys tell of a more prosperous time in Jingdezhen’s history. The village of Yaoli is set in a beautiful landscape of old-growth forests, hills and the Yaohe river valley. Also be sure to try some of Yaoli’s famous green tea.
Yaoli is also the historic site of the reorganization of the New Fourth Army and former residence of General Chenyi. Here was the meeting place for the mobilization of the resistance war against Japan and rear office of the New Fourth Army.
Raozhou: Up the road a few kilometers is Raozhou, a reconstruction of a former ceramic plant, with age-old excavated mining pits, workshops, and ancient kiln sites.Signs in Chinese and English tell of the clay making process along the well-manicured paths.
Nanshan Waterfall: A few more kilometers up the road is the beautiful Nanshan waterfall, with Bamboo groves, nice stone paths, and beautiful vistas of the surrounding Meiling pine forests and mountains. The waterfall is best seen from spring to mid summer and is well worth the uphill hike.
Meiling Holiday Village: Meiling Holiday Village is surrounded by mountains, water, and trees and is a pleasant place to relax, recreate and harmonize with nature.
The Ancient Road to Huizhou: This road was at one time the main way of transportation from ancient Huizhou to Raozhou, and also the location of the outdoor scene of the film, “The Twinkling Red Stars.” The old street of the Ming and Qing Dynasties was one of the most prosperous commercial sections of the Ancient Road to Huizhou.
Cheng’s Ancestral Hall: This hall is a place for education in Chinese patriotism and gives us a look into etiquettes of the feudal times.
General Chan Yi’s Residence: An educational base for patriotism and an historic site for revolutionary activities in Yaoli.
Ancient Water Mill: Yet another site near Yaoli of ceramic charm and historic interest.
